In China, landscape paintings or what they call “sanshui” paintings, takes precedence over other styles. Hung Yu Hsi’s (b 1989) sanshui paintings veer away from the traditional in that she incorporates modern elements into her paintings. For example, she uses a gold finish in between layers of ink, as well as discreet squares in her sanshui paintings.
