George Raftopoulos was a talented painter, his paintings were seen as abstract with vivid and monumental resemblance of Picasso's neoclassical artworks. Having a mixture of two registers: the Greek past and the use of colour and line that recalls Australia's monochrome emptiness, George's paintings gives an impression of familiar and alien, elegant and disquieting, rigourous and anarchic atmosphere overall.
