ABOUT THE ARTIST
Shinya Tanoue’s works (b. 1976, Kyoto) are inspired by the “shell”. For Tanoue, shells relate to the normal circles of life, while the cobalt blue in the pieces represent the ocean, which is the origin of life on Earth. He uses a coil technique to create the shape of the vessel, then adds grooves to the surface.
